The task of a river dredger is to carry out underwater earthwork construction, specifically: deepening, widening and clearing existing waterways and ports; excavating new waterways, ports and canals; dredging the foundation trenches of docks, shipyards, ship locks and other hydraulic structures, and throwing the excavated mud and sand into the deep sea or filling it in land depressions for farmland construction.


The working capacity of a river dredger is expressed by how many cubic meters of soil it can dig per hour. Dredgers are divided into motorized and non-motorized types. According to the construction characteristics, they can be divided into rake suction type, hinged suction type, chain bucket type, grab bucket type and bucket type.
